Riding Through Rugged Terrain For Fun

Posted by Art on Jun 15, 2010 in Biking

Purchasing things to take on an outdoor adventure can be the most exciting party of taking a trip for those most active. Getting camping gear, buying mountain bike, and the correct kinds of foods is important. Friends that enjoy an outdoor adventure are good to have, too.

A black helmet, knee pads, body armor and other safety gear should complement the trip. A first aid kit that includes bandages and antibiotic creams should be taken, otherwise it is careless. A Swiss army knife and can opener should be part of he stock. The darkness calls for a lantern. There should be plenty of water to drink and bug repellent for nasty insects.

The clothing taken on an outdoor adventure should coincide with the changes in weather. This means the daytime clothing, such as tanks and shorts, may need to be changed once it gets dark and the weather gets colder. Long pants, extra socks, and shirts will be great on a wooded or mountain terrain. A lightweight jacket and light blankets are also helpful once the weather gets cold.

For the most rugged areas, a Schwinn mountain bike works, but if the area is narrow, walking is a good way to navigate an area. Looking out for small animals while walking is necessary. They may jump up and bite, especially snakes.

Fishing is another part of the great outdoors. It helps to have the right materials, depending on the time of the year and the fish. Certain fish take to different kinds of bait. Night crawlers may work, but some fish prefer prepared bait and in a pinch, artificial bait can do the job as well. Take care of the rod and reel, especially if the main source of food will be fish. Now if the main source of food on an outdoor adventure is not fish, take along canned goods, and dried meat, such as jerky. Nutritional bars help bring much needed protein and energy for long bike rides or hikes.

The tents that are to be slept in are usually made in terms of twos. This means it may sleep two, four, or six. It also needs to accommodate any extra baggage. Check the sleeping bags for signs of insects before crawling in to sleep.

The right tools for safety, the right foods, and shelter are essential. Wherever an adventure takes one, being prepared makes for the best memories.

Speed – Agility Training – Keeping A Good Training Journal

Posted by Art on Jun 15, 2010 in Biking

Thousands and thousands of people have taken part in sports instruction at some time or another.  A lot of of the more resolute athletes have kept up with their training by employing a training record or training journal.  Everybody gets a benefit from recording a training journal, from the more impromptu fitness and sport participants to the most determined competitor who is  seriously immersed in Speed and Agility Training.

What exactly is the distinction between a training log or a training journal?

The differentiation is determined by what you note down after your run through is completed.  With a training journal, it is true to its namesake.  It is a diary of sorts.  In it, you can write down your emotion or mind-set at that time.  You may journal your psychological status for the length of the day or merely during your practice.  Journals incorporate your comments regarding weather or environmental surroundings, practice site, those in attendance, gear and any other information you could find beneficial and pertinent.  Even though some might record work out statistics, these are ordinarily saved for the training log.

Logs for training are modeled on a style of guide or outline.  To illustrate, you make up sheets that include the identical fields of information.  Each workout you’ll document detailed details including things including your weight, warm-ups, cool-downs, workouts accomplished –not completed, diet plan, hours of sleep and so forth on daily basis.   You may wish to record the  amount of distance you covered,  times doing them, your weight training exercises, body group, amount of repitions and sets and any other practice or training program specific routines you do.  Your speed and agility drills log can also incorporate any and all of the drills that have been done in prior workout sessions.

Owing to the significance of recording both a journal and a log, it shouldn’t be necessary to leave out one in favor of the other.  In both a journal and a log, you keep your useful training chronicle.  When you become an experienced “documenter”, you might determine that you would like to combine both your log and your journal.  This might help keep you honest in your writing as you won’t forget one when doing the other.

Why Write down Your Work out?

The old adage, the thinnest line is better than the thickest memory, comes to mind.  In other words,  you don’t always remember what you did yesterday not to mention last week.  The advantage to recording your training program in a journal or log is that you’ve got a complete description of your training on which to refer.   This record is vital in terms of planning and removing the guesswork.  It charts your progress so that you know what has and has not worked and so that you can alter your training routines or behavior so as to better decide your program for the future.  Documentation also will help you to discover what lead you to an result such as burnout or injury.   Speed and Agility Training can benefit from documentation.   This is also helpful if you are doing a specialized speed and agility training program with different elements.

Therefore, with all that said, if you’ve come to a planning session to chart the course for upcoming training and not had a journal or log, how credible and accurate would your work out strategy be?   If you have detailed records to reference them not only it is simplier and easier to plan ahead, you will  enhance  your execution and intensity to be able to get you closer to your goals.  For instance,   your speed and distance information and coaching notes will help guide you to take the appropriate steps and continue the appropriate behaviors required to accomplish your training goals.

A comprehensive record is helpful and important for personal use.  You will be able to refer back to past months and years to recall different experience in order to create a blog or articles about your Speed and Agility Training experiences.

Take Up Mountain Biking For A Fun Way To Get Fit

Posted by Art on Jun 15, 2010 in Biking

Mountain bikes are not just for riding in the mountains. They are so versatile and comfortable that they have become some of the most popular bikes in the world, even for people who just want something for casual riding.

When you walk into the bicycle shop, you might be confused by the enormous range of mountain bikes you can choose from. You can buy bikes made by the major bicycle manufacturers or you can buy brands that specialize only in MBs. Some very successful companies make only mountain bikes designed for serious riders. Diamondback bikes, for instance, came out of nowhere and is now known for its high quality BMX and mountain bikes.

The quality of these bikes is reflected in their price tags. The most expensive ones feature aluminum or even carbon fiber frames and are as light as a feather. They have the most advanced gearing and breaking systems and offer virtually flawless stopping power and can shift gears smoothly under any conditions. While you may not need one of these dream bikes, if you can afford one, you will love it.

You can also choose between a number of suspension options. Some come with no suspension at all. Others, called ‘hardtails, ‘ have only front suspension. Still others come with front and rear suspension. While full-suspension bikes used to be expensive, they are now common and can be very inexpensive.

If you already have a mountain bike and are buying mountain bike accessories, there are plenty to choose from. There are clever speedometers and odometers that are both lightweight and easy to read. It’s always a good idea to have at least a rear light on your bike. These usually flash rapidly to bring your presence on the road to the attention of passing motorists.

While most people associate bike racing with leg strength, it just takes one look at a professional racer to know that all over muscle growth and strength is important to riders. The pros supplement their riding practice with some weight training, but you will be surprised by how much of a full workout you’ve gotten when you’ve been out riding hard for a couple of hours.

If you are seriously considering riding a mountain bike for fitness, you’re better off buying at least a middle priced bike. The cheaper ones are best for cruising, but you can really put the more expensive bikes to the test.

Dollar for dollar, there is probably no better fitness investment you can make than an investment in a mountain bike. The initial cash outlay may be greater than for other fitness gear, but you will find that you will want to ride your bike all the time. It’s a fun way to get fit and a fun way to enjoy a lazy Sunday afternoon, too.

Is Orange Mountain Bikes’ Diva Worth It?

Posted by Art on Jun 15, 2010 in Biking

Orange mountain bikes, like many other bike manufacturers, offer versions of their bikes which have been altered and tweaked to accommodate the female form. Such bikes are generally called women specific designs and the biking world still hasn’t reached a consensus on whether there is even a need for them. Until about ten years ago, girl bikers generally made do with standard bikes. But Orange mountain bikes and other brands do have a point when they says there are obvious differences between the sexes and that bikes should reflect that in order to give the most comfortable ride.

In designing their bikes for women, Orange mountain bikes identified that women are generally that little bit smaller than men and tend to have less variation in the size of their bodies. As a result the design of the Diva, Orange mountain bikes’ women specific range, has slightly different sizing and geometry to the men’s version in order to accommodate the different body shapes and offer a more comfortable ride.

Most women need bikes that are a little shorter and lower, as well as benefitting from lightweight models. The Orange Five Diva offers all of this. The majority of mountain bikers will know the Orange mountain bikes’ Five, which is a classic amongst mountain bikes. They dominate trails wherever you go. Perhaps you’ll even see a few Diva Fives about. But how good are they?

Orange mountain bikes’ Diva Five comes in two sizes, either short or long. They’re both based on the standard Five model. The build kit is probably the most obvious difference between teh Diva and the standard: it uses 165mm cranks instead of the standard’s 175mm ones. Of course, there is also the women’s saddle.

Because of the air suspension on the front and back of the bike, it is quite lightweight. The ride is also comfortable thanks to the narrower handlebars, shorter cranks and women’s saddle. Don’t let the comfort factor put you off: there are still Hope breaks and Shimano gears.

Overall there’s no disputing the fact that Orange mountain bikes have done well with the Diva Five. Taking a classic design and tweaking it to be more accommodating for the girls was always going to be a winner. If you’re on the lookout for a great women’s trail bike then look no further.

Some Beginner Mountain Bike Skills

Posted by Art on Jun 15, 2010 in Biking

Mountain biking is an exciting sport that can be enjoyed by anyone who knows how to ride a bike. Compared to an average bike ride, it does present some danger.  Therefore, you should master these basic skills before you hit the trails or the dirt.

You can practice these beginning skills at a local park, school, bike path, or simply around your house. If you can, try to find a location with a steep hill.

Get a feel for your pedals
Practice moving your foot away from the pedal, first while sitting on your bike with one foot on the ground.  Next, move on to releasing and replacing your foot while pedaling around for a bit.  Those with toe clip and clipless type foot pedals will want to spend a bit more time practicing.

Sit and spin for position
Simply sit on your bike and pedal around.  You should keep your arms slightly bent.  You should also adjust your seat height so your leg is 70 to 90 percent extended at the bottom of every stroke on the pedal.  Keep your body relaxed, as there will never be a position where you should have either your knees or your elbows locked.

Shifting gears
Get a feel for shifting gears with your bike. The higher gears are a bit harder to pedal and will go faster while the lower gears are easier to pedal and will help you ascend hills. As you get to steeper hills, its better to shift before you get to the hill rather than while your on it.

Coasting
You should spend a bit of time coasting while standing on your pedals, without actually sitting on the seat.  Keep your arms bent but don’t lock your knees.  Now, try experimenting with shifting your body towards the rear end of the bike.

Pedal while standing
You should get as comfortable as you can with pedaling while standing on your bike.Try lifting yourself off the seat while you are standing on the pedals, then crank them around.  You should try this in higher gears on flat ground then again in lower gears while on a hill.

Dropping down a curb
Try finding a curb where you can easily get to the upper portion of it.  Practice at a moderate speed, standing and coasting right off the curb from the upper level to the lower level.  Try this at different speeds until it becomes second nature.

Once you practice these mountain biking techniques and get the hang of them, you’ll be able to hit the trails feeling comfortable on your mountain bike.  Even though it may take some getting used to, it’ll become second nature before you know it.
