The factors to consider when buying a bike frame are the material its made from, the symmetry and sizes of the bike frame. 

Early wood and steel road bike frames

The size of the frame is the length of the seat tube.  The number is usually presented in centimeters. A popular way to determine your bike frame size is to measure 0.65 of your inseam length. You can calculate your bike frame size by measuring your inseam, converting it to centimeters and multipling by 0.65.  For your reference, one inch is equal to 2.54 centimeters. With this method an inseam length of 34 would translates into a 56  bike frame size. If you are buying a mountain bikes you should get a frame size that is 10 to 12 centimeters smaller.

When an exact size is not possible this can be corrected by adjusting the seat height. Another distance to consider is that of the part of the frame that holds the pedals and cranks to the seat.  This measurement should be about 0.88 of your inseam size.

A minor adjustment of the seat hight and the right bike frame size will result in the perfect fit.

So you love to bicycle. You have to go on a road trip. Do you leave your bike behind or do you take it with you?

The answer is obvious – take it with you!

We all know how much fun it is bike riding. It’s good exercise, you get places a lot faster than if you were jogging, and you can see all the beautiful scenery across this great country.

So what’s stopping you from bringing your bike with you?

Space considerations? If you’ve got all your luggage in your trunk there’s no room for your bike.

The hassle? And even if you do have enough room in the car, you’ll probably have to take the wheel off to fit it in, and the bike or car might end up getting scratched.

There is a simple solution for this – a car bike rack. There’s two main kinds – one that fits on the roof of the car and one that is rear mounted. You’ll have to decide which type would best suit your needs.

Put off by the cost of buying a bike rack? Think about this for a second. Keeping yourself healthy on the road is always an important need – health costs from lack of exercise can be huge! You’ll probably be able to rent a bike at your destination but there’s the cost of the rental – and frankly the bike itself will not be of the highest quality.

If you intend to ride at night at times, it’s important for your bicycle to have front and rear lights. Installing reflectors will also make you more visible to motorists.
